Publication KSSG-OKS I - Project introduction and pavilion
Building monograph. 2018
DESCRIPTION
KSSG-OKS I - project introduction and pavilion, ed. Marko Sauer and Christoph Wieser, Verlag park books, 2018
In 2011, Zurich architect Fawad Kazi and the planning consortium PG KSSG-OKS won the competition for the extensive extension project of the St.Gallen Cantonal Hospital and the new building for the Eastern Switzerland Children's Hospital. Over the next ten years, major extensions and new buildings will be realized that will completely transform the entire hospital site: The park with individual buildings will give way to a large, coherent building complex.
This five-volume monograph on the building documents in detail the project, which is significant in terms of urban planning and challenging in terms of architecture, construction and hospital operations.
Volume I sheds light on the genesis of the project and is dedicated to the first new building. The elegant pavilion is both an extension of the existing restaurant and a transformer station for the entire hospital complex. This duality is reflected in the solid construction of the underground infrastructure, which in the form of mighty chimneys forms the primary supporting structure for the lightweight construction of the restaurant area.
