Archaeological Museum in Giza, competition entry. 2002
PROCEDURE Open competition, 2002 Sponsor: Egyptian Ministry of Culture
TEAM Fawad Kazi
DESCRIPTION The Great Egyptian Museum is a granite BLOCK in the desert. Its dimensions and proportions refer to the Giza Pyramids.
The FRAME contains all the services and infrastructure of the museum. The FILLING is the exhibition area. It is a modular structure that contrasts with the open air spaces inside. The flexible system allows for future transformations and extensions.
The exhibition area is conceived as a PATTERN of interior and exterior spaces, of light and shadow. The collections are woven into this PATTERN.
Large screens overlap with physical artefacts and environments. VIRTUAL reality merges with reality.
Data centers provide INFORMATION. They guide through the museum. They provide access to internal and external databases.
